Reblog: So We Can Learn to Pick Ourselves Up …

That’s how many days I had consecutively written more than 250 words per day. 242. And then, I fell down. (Figuratively, of course. I didn’t break anything but my pride.)

Seriously, I didn’t think it was that big a deal until I failed to do it, and once I stopped it took 12 days to start again. Unbelievable!

Funny thing, when I looked at the breadth of my writing over the past 242 days, the majority of it really didn’t amount to anything; almost as if I had been marking time.

Dawn’s Early Light: Now, It’s a Party!

Books and Braun are back for another rollicking adventure, beginning this time on the Outer Banks! Dawn’s Early Light is the third installment in The Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series by Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris.

Pip and Tee are prolific authors, podcasters, lecturers, and social media mavens. They are also a great deal of fun to be around. It’s a lot like being in the The Thin Man. They have a great dynamic and an infectious sort of fun that translates well in their writing.

Reblog: I’ve Got the Music in Me

I was on Facebook the other day (yes, *instead* of writing) and came across this survey: What music do you listen to when you write? As you can imagine, the answers were all over the place, and the comments were as well. One comment in particular stuck with me: “I don’t listen to music. It occupies the creative centers of the brain and prevents me from writing.”

Huh. Weird, right? I had always been under the impression that listening to music served as a focus. Unless it was music with lyrics. At that point, I’ll start singing along and the kids will come in and tell me to stop torturing squirrels, it’s too loud, the neighbors are beginning to complain, and the police have been called. I really don’t understand why; I have a beautiful singing voice.

Reblog: Writing Resolutely

I need a nap! Don’t get me wrong, I love the New Year. It’s full of possibilities. Like the possibility that I’ll get my novel finished this year, or that I’ll drop the fifteen pounds I’ve put on since Thanksgiving.

The fourth quarter is tough, isn’t it. At my house, holiday celebrations are a priority, and that means food, Food, FOOD! And, of course, there’s the kids. We watched an infant for some friends of ours over the holiday break. I walked the little darling until she fell asleep, then I sat down for a moment. Just to rest my eyes. My minions seized the opportunity, struck, and snapped this picture.

Reblog: Review: Ogre: Designer Edition

When Dirty Jon first asked me write a guest article, I’ll admit to some trepidation. I love to play board games, I just don’t know how much of an expert I am on them. He offered me these sage words of advice, “Shut up and write.” So, here we are.

One breezy afternoon in the early fall of 1977, I hopped on my bike – barefoot and helmetless, because I was a newly minted freshman in high school and invincible – and rode the one and half miles of residential roads to a little strip mall that bordered the nearest highway. When I write that now, it sounds incredibly dangerous, but it was the 70’s, so I was okay.
